Remedy has officially revealed Control: Resonant, a new game that is set in the same universe as Control. Not just a reboot or a spin-off, but an actual, proper continuation of the world Remedy introduced in the first game. On top of that, Resonant was created with new players in mind, so that anyone can jump in, even without having played Control before.
If you did play Control, the setup will sound familiar. You explored the Oldest House as Jesse Faden, uncovering strange events and even stranger truths. Resonant changes the focus to Dylan Faden, Jesse’s brother, whose story played an important role in the original game. This time, he is the main character.
A New Setting Outside the Oldest House
One of the biggest changes is the setting. Control mostly took place inside the Oldest House, with its changing rooms and impossible architecture. Resonant moves away from that and into a damaged version of Manhattan.
Instead of one contained location, the game features larger city areas that can be explored more freely. Remedy confirmed that exploration plays a much bigger role this time. Players can take optional paths, run into side events, and find rewards by slowing down and paying attention, rather than just following the main story marker.
Combat, Abilities, and a More Open Structure
Combat still combines weapons and psychic powers, but there is a new core weapon called The Aberrant. Unlike the Service Weapon from Control, this one can fully change its form, switching between heavy melee attacks and faster close-range options. Psychic abilities return as well and can be upgraded, which gives players more freedom to create their own build.
The overall structure is also less restrictive. Control often guided players through very specific sequences. Resonant will allow much more choice, with branching missions and events that can play out differently depending on where you go and what you engage with. Remedy has already said this is the largest game they have worked on so far.

Even with these changes, the overall feeling and atmosphere of the game remains familiar. The strange, unexplained events and slow, unsettling storytelling that defined Control are still very much present.
Control: Resonant will release in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC.
