WildStar Trademark Shows Up Again
MMO fans noticed that NCSoft quietly renewed the WildStar trademark, and that was enough to get people talking again. On paper, this does not mean much. Renewing a trademark is a routine move to keep ownership and stop anyone else from claiming it. However, with WildStar’s history, even a small update like this brings the game back into the spotlight.
Why It Probably Means Nothing
Trademark renewals happen all the time. Companies need to keep names active in case they want to use them later, sell them, or just to avoid losing them. It is basically legal housekeeping, and plenty of old IPs have had their names renewed without anything new ever coming from it.
The Legacy Of WildStar
Even after shutting down, WildStar built up a cult following. Players still remember the things it did better than most MMOs:
- Fast, skill-based combat with telegraphs and aiming
- Housing that was ridiculously customizable
- Deep raids and dungeons that pushed mechanics
- PvP and class design that felt unique
- A bright, colorful art style
At the same time, the game had real problems. It launched in a rather bad state with bugs and unstable servers. Hardcore attunement made it tough for casual players to keep up, and content took too long to arrive. By the time the free-to-play version fixed a lot of these issues, most people had already left.
Could WildStar Return?
The safe answer is no. A trademark renewal does not mean NCSoft is reviving WildStar. At best, it keeps the door open for something small in the future, or even just to hold onto the brand.

That said, however, the nostalgia is still strong. For plenty of players WildStar was their favorite MMO after WoW, especially for raids, PvP, and its unique combat. Even if it never returns, just seeing the name renewed is enough to remind people what made it special.
