Cronos: The New Dawn might not be on your radar yet – but it should be. The story-focused survival horror RPG just got a new trailer, showing off more of its world, characters, and weird sci-fi vibe. If you are into heavy storytelling, emotional choices, and dark themes, this one might be worth keeping an eye on.
The game comes from Bloober Team – the devs behind Silent Hill 2 Remake, The Medium, and Layers of Fear. So it is pretty safe to say that we can expect something tense, moody, and a little unsettling.
The World Ended in the ’80s
Cronos is set in an alternate version of Earth where a strange disease called “The Change” wiped out humanity back in the 1980s. You play as a Traveler, working for a secretive group known as the Collective. Your job is to travel back in time and extract the soul – or “Essence” – of important people before the world collapses.
- The process is known as Essence Extraction.
- Every person you extract loses their soul.
- Your choices affect how the world reacts and how the story unfolds.

The Characters Are the Core
The devs, Grzegorz Like (Lead Writer) and Klaudia Sewera (Producer), put major focus on character writing. This is not just a lore dump game – it is about relationships, moral dilemmas, and how you, the player, react to different situations.
- You discover the story with the protagonist.
- Some characters will become favorites. Others… not so much.
- Many of them are connected in surprising ways.
Meet The Warden
One of the most important figures is The Warden – your handler of sorts. He keeps your tools in order, manages the hub world, and adds a second perspective to the narrative. He is one of the key voices you will interact with across the whole game.

Nowa Huta – The City Reimagined
The game’s main location is a warped version of Nowa Huta, a real-life district in Poland. It is full of sci-fi twists: floating buildings, broken streets, time-warped architecture.
- Inspired by lead writer Grzegorz’s own childhood hometown.
- The team wants to keep the cultural and historical weight of the place.
- It adds realism and emotion to the otherwise fantastical setting.
Not Just Scary & A Bit Weird
Although Cronos has a rather serious tone overall, it is not all grim. The team adds quirky charm and humor in the mix too. A fun example? They joked that fans always ask lore questions – but no one asks about dogs or hamsters. So, we can probably expect light-hearted touches in between the heavy themes of morality, identity, and consequence.
The game still has no firm release date, but this new story overview adds some weight behind the project. You can watch the full video here:
