After nearly three years of anticipation, CULTIC: Chapter Two will finally launch on September 18th, accompanied by its 2.0 update! Now is the time to get into one of the best old-school boomer shooters of the last decade.
What is CULTIC?
During the peak resurgence of both old-school and new boomer shooters between 2018 and 2022, CULTIC stood out among numerous games for its brutal and masterfully crafted world, offering players the freedom to approach fights in various ways.
One of CULTIC’s greatest strengths is its exceptional art and gameplay direction, which pays homage to classic boomer shooters such as DOOM, QUAKE, and especially the renowned title, Blood. Paired with a fantastic soundtrack, intricate level design, and a diverse enemy roster. Altogether, it ranks as one of the best new-age boomer shooters on the market with a 98% overwhelmingly positive rating on Steam.
Every level is masterfully hand-made, allowing players to explore multiple strategies for combat. Players can charge in guns blazing, pick off enemies from a distance, or get creative by utilizing the fully 3D environment to their advantage.
Additionally, another unique aspect of CULTIC is that most of the game is built with voxels. This allows players to grab, kick, or shoot items—or even large set pieces—to significantly alter the course of a fight. The cultists and creatures you encounter are all well-designed and interact effectively with one another. This creates a fantastic gameplay loop that encourages players to constantly switch weapons and adjust strategies with each encounter. One combat feature that never gets old, aside from the impressive display of gore, is shooting dynamite or throwing axes out of the air.
CULTIC: Chapter Two
CULTIC: Chapter Two picks up where Chapter One left off, featuring a total of 12 maps, all being even larger and more detailed than Chapter One. An expanded arsenal of weapons and a revamped dodge/dash mechanic. Alongside Chapter 2, the 2.0 update will introduce gameplay improvements, numerous optimizations, an improved lighting system, and enhancements to Chapter One, all provided free of charge for existing owners of CULTIC.
Combined with Chapter One, that’s a total of 22 maps. Plus, 3 additional Survival Mode maps for those who just can’t get enough of CULTIC’s hectic combat. You can pick up Chapter One for 10$ on Steam, while Chapter 2 will likely be around the same price.
