It’s been some time since Warhammer 40,000: Darktide saw a major update, with the most recent one introducing the Hive Scum class. While there has been minor updates such as the new No Man’s Land mission, it’s been quiet on Atoma for a little while. However, Fatshark has just announced that not only is Darktide getting a brand new enemy, but also new ‘Expeditions’ game mode, which takes inspiration from popular extraction shooters, coming March 17th.
Darktide’s New Extraction Shooter Mode
That’s right, with the rising popularity of extraction shooters such as Arc Raiders, Marathon, Tarkov, and others, Darktide is getting implementing its own extraction shooter move, in the form of Expeditions.
Rather than scrunging through the depths of the Hive City, players are venturing into the desolate plains of Atoma Prime with a new mission objective: scour the planet for Tech-Remnants and investigate sites of interest on the map. However, even the strongest reject can only survive the polluted air for a limited time, making every mission a race against the clock.
The War Has Expanded Beyond the Hive

Every minute spent outside of the Hive City alerts Chaos Spawn and other monstrosities to players’ prescence. Unlike standard Darktide levels, the badlands are unpredictable with no two runs in Expeditions are the same. Enemies can strike from every direction and are no longer limited to the tight, chaotic battlegrounds found within Tertium.
More Fire Power & More Threats

There are new weapons and enemies that await players on the surface of Atoma. Throughout your Expeditions you may come across the Ogryn Pack Master, Darktides newest threat. This massive Ogryn roams the plains of the badlands with his pack of Armoured, or standard Pox Hounds.
But that’s not all, the new game mode introduces an arsenal of new items alongside modified and supercharged versions of existing ones in the Dead Side Sanctuary. The obliterating Modified Grenade is one such item that will make quick work of hordes, but will likely draw in more squads to your location.
To back all of this up, Design Director Victor Magnuson describes it as “the biggest injection of new content in the game since launch”. This fully loaded update offers an entirely new way to play Darktide and will be avalible to play on March 17th!
