Thursday is here, and with it comes the reveal of Deadlock’s fourth newest hero from the ongoing Old Gods, New Blood update. The votes are in, and Venator is the latest hero joining Deadlock. This devout hunter marches to the streets of the Cursed Apple to cleanse the city of supernatural predators.
Venator Joins Deadlock
Venator is the fourth of six new heroes coming in Deadlock’s latest update. His kit rewards smart positioning and weapon mastery, allowing him to control and punish enemies who step out of line. Notably, Venator is the first hero in Deadlock to feature true damage as a core part of his kit, enabling devastating burst potential and likely sparking some debate, as true damage has historically been controversial.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what Venator can do:
- Consecrating Grenade: Fire a grenade that bounces once before exploding, setting enemies on fire. Enemies who are burning suffer reduced healing and take true damage over a short duration.
- Gutshot: Fire your shotgun, knocking enemies back. If an enemy collides with a wall, they are stunned for a short time. (Upgrading Gutshot to rank 3 causes Gutshot stunns to bless your next melee with true damage).
- Hex-Lined Snap Trap: Kick a bear trap, which arms after a short delay, applying immobilize & revealing enemies for a short time.
- Ira Domini: Load three bolts into your crossbow. Each bolt deals massive weapon damage, and the final shot is blessed, dealing extra true damage and executing low-health enemies.
Venator’s abilities require careful positioning in order to trap your foes or utilize your shotgun’s stun. What’s also interesting to note is that while he doesn’t value a ton from building Spirit, Venator surprisingly gains more Bullet and Spirit resist by building Spirit items.
