Deadpool Just Swapped Roles in Marvel Rivals Leaving Fans Confused

Deadpool—aka the Merc with a Mouth—has always been one of Marvel’s go-to chaos agents. He’s comic relief, sure, but he’s also a character that actively reshapes whatever medium he shows up in. So it shouldn’t be shocking that, since his initial reveal at The Game Awards, Deadpool has already started causing trouble in Marvel Rivals—and he isn’t even in the game yet.

Between the constant fourth-wall breaks, self-awareness, and outright manipulation of the narrative, something is always getting messed with when Deadpool’s involved. Somehow, he’s swapping roles before release, leaving fans scratching their heads.

Deadpool Is Now a Vanguard in Marvel Rivals?

It was only a matter of time before Deadpool altered something, but most fans probably didn’t expect his in-game role to change overnight. Following The Game Awards, Deadpool “broke into” Marvel Rivals as the very first character visible on the roster. Players can’t select him, preview his kit, or interact in any meaningful way—you can only stare back at his smug, taunting expression.

Recently, though, he’s taking things a step further. Deadpool has quietly moved himself from the Duelist role into the Vanguard category.

Is this the developers—or Deadpool himself—messing with the community’s obsession over predicting hero roles before launch? Or is this teasing something more substantial down the line?

Is Deadpool Multiclassing?

While it’s unlikely, it’s still worth entertaining the idea that Deadpool could become Marvel Rivals’ first multi-role character. Since the game’s announcement, there’s been constant debate over which roles best fit certain heroes. Rogue is a recent example—many fans thought of her as a support, only for her to be officially revealed as a tank.

There are plenty of other characters where role swaps could make sense with the right abilities. Doctor Strange. Mister Fantastic. You could even make arguments for Thor or Loki. The list goes on—but implementing flexible roles across the roster would probably overcomplicate the game.

Still, if there were ever a character allowed to bend the rules, it would be the one who literally breaks the fourth wall. If Marvel Rivals ever experiments with role-switching or meta-defying mechanics, Deadpool feels like the obvious—and possibly only—place to start.
