Nintendo has done it again. The newly released Nintendo Switch 2 has sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide in just its first four days. That’s a new record for the company, and it happened despite early complaints about the $449.99 price.

The console officially launched on June 5, and within days, many online stores in the U.S. were already sold out, the same for the rest of the world. Players may have raised eyebrows at the price, but clearly, that didn’t stop them from grabbing the newest Nintendo console.

An Early Success Story

According to Nintendo, this early success makes the Switch 2 the fastest-selling console in the company’s history. Before launch, Nintendo expected to sell 15 million consoles by March 2026, and this first wave already is a big step towards that goal.

The Switch 2 launched with Mario Kart World as its main title, alongside other new and updated games. On July 17, Nintendo will release Donkey Kong Bananza, a new exclusive that’s expected to boost sales even more.

This is Nintendo’s first new console in eight years, following the original Switch from 2017. Some players were skeptical about the price, especially with added costs from accessories and international tariffs. But the sales numbers don’t lie, and people clearly want what the Switch 2 is offering.

So yes, people did complain about the price… but they also bought the console in record numbers. Looks like Nintendo’s big bet is paying off, and the Switch 2 is off to an incredible start.
