Dragon Ball FighterZ Is Back with a Massive Update

Dragon Ball FighterZ is back from the dead? After a few years of little to no major updates, Dragon Ball FighterZ is getting a fresh set of game-changing patch notes and a brand new character.

Dragon Ball FighterZ Is Back

During EVO France, a new trailer was dropped with a huge surprise announcement for fans. FighterZ is getting a massive balance patch that seriously changes up the game. This patch affects basically every single character in the entire roster. The sheer amount of changes is merely too long to list, so if you want to know everything in detail, check out the official blog post.

Alongside this announcement, some notable gameplay changes include significantly stronger Z-Reflects, and fans can expect a new character to arrive in the spring of 2026. Super Saiyan 4 Goku (from Dragon Ball Daima) will be the newest character coming to FighterZ next year. Sadly, we don’t have gameplay of them just yet.

However, as the trailer says, “The fight is far from over,” likely hinting that Dragon Ball FighterZ will be getting at least another FighterZ Pass, which will bring in a bunch of brand new characters. Fans have already begun theorizing and wishing for certain older characters to finally make a debut. Although most signs are pointing to more characters from Daima or Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, will likely be the first additions. It honestly wouldn’t be a surprise to see Beast Gohan or Orange Piccolo on that list.

The Fate of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO

Fans are also beginning to speculate that this recent shift back to FighterZ is due to the fact that Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is basically on life support. The newer Dragon Ball title showed a ton of promise at launch, with currently over 200 characters to choose from, but the game suffers from the lack of post-launch support, aside from the occasional character pack. The theory that Daima or Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero characters are going to be coming to FighterZ is due to the fact that those characters were also the most recent additions to Sparking Zero.

With the recent spark in development for FighterZ, does this also spell out the end of Sparking Zero’s development? If not, it would take a serious patch like this one to bring that game’s playerbase back from the dead, which is a shame since it is such a fun and hype alternative fighter.
