With launch rapidly approaching on the horizon, Dune: Awakening developers are giving players a quick look back at the Beta Weekend that brought thousands of players to the sands of Arrakis. In a recent post on the official X (Twitter) account, Funcom shared some intriguing statistics from the playtest. It’s clear that Shai-Hulud had quite the feast!
You can take a look at the official post here:
Beta Weekend by the Numbers
Here’s a quick overview of what happened during the Beta:
- 25% of the Area of Hagga Basin was explored
- 107 959 players were swallowed by Shai-Hulud
- 214 919 vehicles crafted
- 9 980 575 Scavengers killed
- 56 994 New planetologists trained
- 4 093 Spice Hallucinations experienced
- 13 245 Awoken Minds
- 10 063 players got lost in Sandstorms
- 65 473 players withered away in the Sun
- And more!
What you need to keep in mind from this Beta recap for launch is:
- Be careful when wandering around the desert: the Sandworm is always lurking, the Sun can kill you, and the Scavengers too!
- Keep building houses, upgrade your vehicles, and explore the massive new zones!
What’s the Actual Size of the Upcoming Zone in Dune?
Talking about zones, a map size comparison graph was shared on Reddit, showcasing the difference between the Hagga Basin we explored in the Beta, the maps of other games, and the upcoming Endgame map in Dune called the Deep Desert!
You can take a look at the original post here:
The Deep Desert will be over 500 km², compared to just 64 km² for the Hagga Basin! This is a massive difference in scale.
To put that into perspective, the Deep Desert will be 200–300 km² larger than the entire maps of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey or The Witcher 3. That’s an enormous space to explore.
Naturally, this has led many players to wonder: will this vast open world be filled with meaningful activities? We certainly hope Funcom hasn’t forgotten to fill that massive desert with things to do beyond just avoiding Shai-Hulud!
