Just Getting Started? Keep It Simple!
Your first base in Dune: Awakening is temporary. Only build what you need to advance quests and survive. You will be moving on fast.
Here is what you should focus on:
- Build only the essentials: crafting stations (required to advance quests), storage, respawn point/beacon
- Avoid investing too much: you will move on quickly during the tutorial
- Use terrain for cover: rock outcroppings or ruins can protect you from sandstorms without wasting materials
Pick a Good Spot (But Not Forever)
Once you finish the intro, you will want to set up something more permanent. Here are some quick tips:
- Stay near a spawn point or obelisk for easier returns
- Avoid placing your base in PvP-heavy zones if you want to stay under the radar
- Flat, open terrain is ideal for expanding your layout later on
Build Priorities: What to Craft First
Start small and focus on utility:
- Workbench: for crafting ammo, tools, and upgrades
- Extractor or processor: depending on what resources you are gathering nearby
- Storage boxes: inventory fills up fast, and you do not want to trash rare mats
- Sand bike station (once unlocked): to move faster across the map

Base Building Is Mostly Cosmetic – For Now
There is no strict structure system like in survival sims. Right now, Dune: Awakening’s base building is more about function and style. Decorative items exist, but they are optional, and defensive tools are rather limited (sandstorms are your main enemy early on).
Building is fun, for sure, but at the moment, there is not that much to it. This just means that we can probably expect much more building complexity to be added in future updates.
Do Not Forget to Pack Up!
Once you are ready to move to a new area, you can deconstruct most of your base and reclaim materials. Make it a habit before leaving, because resources are slow to gather early on!
