EA is getting more and more player-friendly in their latest takes! After pushing away Battlefield 6 skins, they made a statement on The Sims 5!
In a recent interview with Variety about the future of The Sims franchise, EA president Laura Miele confirmed that The Sims 5 is not happening anytime soon. The reason behind it is that they do not want to force players to give up all their Sims 4 content! And this actually does make a lot of sense!
“What I wouldn’t want to have happen is you to have to start from day zero and start from scratch and give up all of the things that you have created, give up all of the content that you’ve purchased over the years,” Miele said. “We put out over 85 content packs over the last 10 years on ‘The Sims 4,’ and so resetting that is not player friendly and not a good idea for our community.”
Why Are They Holding off on Sims 5
According to EA, this is not about laziness, it is about being smart and respectful of the community. The main reasons being:
- Players would lose everything they have built, bought, and modded in The Sims 4
- The tech still works. No need for a new engine just to say “Sims 5 exists”
- There is no real competition right now
They see Sims 4 as a “platform” that is still growing, with no plans to shut it down or fade it out. And honestly? That makes sense. We still get new content, updates, and a ton of community activity around it.
So What Is EA Working On?

There is a new Sims experience in development. It is a free-to-play, multiplayer spin-off that EA is treating like its own platform, with cross-platform play, mobile support, and a more social, connected experience.
Think Sims meets online hangout. It is one of EA’s “biggest growth opportunities,” according to Miele, and they are building it from the ground up to be accessible, modern, and way more connected.
The Sims Is Now a Whole Universe
More than just a game, EA wants The Sims to become a whole ecosystem. They are talking about:
- Creating cozy, lifestyle-focused experiences
- Partnering with Nintendo in Asia
- Expanding The Sims into new formats and platforms
Honestly, this is a side of EA we do not see often! One that is prioritizing players, not just product cycles.
Sims 5 is not happening anytime soon, and for now, that is actually good news. EA does not want to wipe out everything players have built in Sims 4, and they are leaning into a bigger, more flexible Sims future instead.
