In Elden Ring: Nightreign, the Night’s Tide is a deadly weather event that slowly closes in on a part of the map during expeditions in Limveld. While it’s not a battle royale, the shrinking circle acts a lot like one, forcing players into a smaller zone over time. If you ever played Fortnite, you most likely know how that feels. However, it does work differently than your usual weather event. Here’s everything you need to know about the Night’s Tide, and how to avoid dying in there.
What Is the Night’s Tide?

The Night’s Tide is a blue flaming circle that appears around the edges of Limveld. It deals gradual damage to any Nightfarer who stands inside it for too long.
Enemies are not affected by the Night’s Tide. Only players take damage.
If you stay in the Tide for too long, you’ll lose all your HP, a character level, and your runes. You will respawn, but your location will be random, and you might land in the fire again.
When Does the Night’s Tide Start Shrinking?
Each expedition day in Nightreign lasts around 15 minutes. The Night’s Tide starts at the border and shrinks toward the center as the day goes on.
While there is no official schedule for the Night’s Tide, here is what players were able to observe:
Event Notification | Time | Description |
---|---|---|
The Night’s tide grows stronger. | 4m 30s | Tide begins shrinking from the edges |
Rains gather, portending the tide of Night. | 11m | Tide begins final phase toward the boss arena |
Boss Fight Begins. | 14m | Tide stops, boss spawns in the final circle |
Be aware that these times are approximate and only based on player observations. They may vary.
On Day 1 and Day 2, this cycle repeats. After Day 2, you’ll be moved to a new area to prepare for the Night Lord on Day 3. There’s no tide on the final day.
Tips to Survive the Night’s Tide

- Open your map often. You can see the circle shrinking and plan accordingly.
- Watch the notifications. These tell you exactly when the circle starts moving.
- Use flasks wisely. You can survive in the Tide briefly, but don’t waste healing items.
- Check for Sites of Grace. Replenish your flasks before major fights.
- Death has a cost. If you die in the Tide, you’ll lose a level and your runes. But you can get them back:
- Day 1: Come back the next day to recover everything.
- Day 2: You can only recover if you died near the boss area.
Can You Get Enemy Drops in the Tide?
Yes, but it’s risky. If enemies die inside the Tide, they drop their items there too. You’ll need to run in and grab them before dying, or, better yet, try to lure enemies out before finishing them off.
Avoid Getting Stuck in the Night’s Tide
To stay ahead of the Tide:
- Track the next safe circle.
- Use Spiritstream or Spectral Hawk points on the map to quickly move across terrain.
- Don’t wait too long to move. The Tide gets faster the longer the day goes on.
If a boss or enemy enters the Tide during a fight, don’t follow. Let them come back to you.
The Night’s Tide is one of the most unique mechanics in Elden Ring: Nightreign, adding stress and danger to every expedition. Knowing how it works and keeping an eye on the clock (and your map) can mean the difference between surviving and losing everything.
