Relics are one of the most important customization tools in Elden Ring: Nightreign, but the game doesn’t do a great job of explaining how they work. If you want to max out your character’s build before going on expeditions, understanding the Relics system is essential, and we’ve got you covered.
Where to Find and Equip Relics
Relics can only be accessed at the Roundtable Hold. Head to the central area and look for a wall segment with blue candles. Interact with the altar there and select “Perform Relic Rites” to open the Relics menu.
From here, you’ll see tabs for each of your unlocked classes. There are six available at the start, with two more you can unlock later. On the left side, each class shows three colored Relic slots (red, blue, green, or orange), and on the right, you’ll see all the Relics you’ve collected.

How to Get More Relics
You can acquire Relics in three different ways:
- Expedition Rewards: At the end of every expedition run. Both if you win or lose, you’ll receive Murk (the game’s currency) and usually a few Relics.
- Small Jar Bazaar: This NPC shop in the Roundtable Hold lets you:
- Buy Relics directly.
- Buy Scenic Flatstones for a chance at a random Relic.
- Spend Murk, which you earn from expeditions.
- Remembrance quests: Completing those for each character will reward a specific Relic that enhances the class.
Longer and more successful expeditions reward more Murk and better Relics.
How to Equip Relics by Class
Each class has three colored slots, and you can only place Relics into their matching colors. On top of that, some relics can only be equipped by a certain class. For example, a red Relic can only go into a red slot.
You’re free to equip the same Relic on different classes, as long as the color matches. So if you find a powerful red Relic, use it on any class with red slots.
How to Change Relic Slot Colors

By default, each class is locked to its own color combination. But you can change the slot colors using Class Goblets:
- Defeat Tricephalos, the first major boss, to unlock goblets at the Small Jar Bazaar.
- Each Class Goblet costs 1,200 Murk.
- Once you buy a goblet, go back to the Relics menu, select the class, and use the white down arrow to swap between the default “Urn” and the new “Goblet” setup.
Example:
- The Guardian’s Urn has 1 red and 2 orange slots.
- The Guardian’s Goblet has 2 blue and 1 green slot.
This lets you adapt a class to different Relics, especially if your best ones don’t match the default slots.
Pro Tips for Relic Builds
Prioritize Relics that enhance your preferred playstyle. If you’re playing a melee-heavy Guardian, focus on Relics that boost stamina or physical damage. You also want to use expedition rewards wisely. Check Relic descriptions: some have strong synergies with certain classes. Don’t hesitate to experiment with Goblets early to see if a different slot layout better suits your favorite Relics.
Relics are a core part of build customization in Nightreign, and once you unlock their potential, your expeditions will get a serious boost.
