FromSoftware and Bandai Namco just launched Elden Ring: Nightreign, a new co-op spin-off of the popular 2022 action-RPG. With over 30 million Elden Ring fans worldwide, the hype was real, and the numbers show it.
Just hours after release, Nightreign hit a peak of 313,593 concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB. That’s an impressive start, even if it’s still far from the original Elden Ring’s all-time peak of 953,426 players back in 2022.
However, things have already cooled down a bit. As of now, the player count has dropped to around 152,956 concurrent players, which is less than half of its launch peak.
Mixed Reviews on Steam

Despite the strong start, Nightreign is currently sitting with “Mixed” reviews on Steam. Many players are criticizing the game for:
- Gameplay that feels too different from the slower, methodical style of Souls-like combat
- Unbalanced solo mode, making it hard for lone players
- Randomness in matches, which feels frustrating rather than fun
- Recycled environments and enemies from the base game
- Various technical issues and bugs
While many players were expecting a more traditional Elden Ring experience, Nightreign is still worth checking out if you enjoy rogue-like gameplay. It demands quick thinking, strategic decisions, and strong teamwork.
