When you see the message “The earth has shifted” in Elden Ring: Nightreign, you’re about to face something big. Shifting Earth events are limited-time map changes that add new areas, enemies, and rewards to your expedition. They’re optional, but skipping them might mean missing out on powerful traits and gear.
Here’s everything you need to know about how Shifting Earth works and what each event includes.
What Are Shifting Earth Events?

Shifting Earth events are temporary changes to the Limveld map that appear randomly during expeditions. These changes create new zones with a theme, unique enemies, and rewards. You’ll usually find out one has started through a notification like “The earth has shifted” on your screen.
Each event adds a challenging area to the map, but you can choose if you visit it or not. These events stay active for a few expeditions, or you can turn them off manually by selecting Pass Time at the Roundtable Hold’s Waiting Room. They also pause when you enter the Realm of Remembrance.
Should You Do Shifting Earth Events?
Yes, if you’re ready for a challenge. These events often involve tough enemies or bosses, but they reward you with strong passive traits or special upgrades you can’t find anywhere else. Just be sure to reach the area before the Night’s Tide starts closing in, or you might lose access.

If you spot a Shifting Earth zone like The Mountaintop or Noklateo, try to visit early in your run so you don’t lose access when the storm shrinks the map. These zones are some of the best places to get passive traits that can turn a run around, especially when facing late-game bosses.
