Elden Ring players looking forward to the upcoming Nightreign spin-off can rest easy. FromSoftware has confirmed the game will be fully playable offline and solo when it releases on May 30th for PS5, Xbox, and PC.
In an interview with IGN, game director Junya Ishizaki explained that solo play was considered from the start during development. Although Nightreign is mainly designed as a three-player co-op game, players can still do it alone if they want.
Ishizaki shared that the team worked hard to make sure solo players would still have a great experience. “We did put a lot of effort into creating this experience that was playable for solo players,” he said. “Even though the game is built around three players, a lot of the time you’ll be acting and behaving on your own.”
No Two-Player Mode (Yet)

One thing that’s missing, however, is a two-player mode. The game only supports three-player co-op or solo play, and this has led to some confusion among players.
Ishizaki apologized for the absence of a duo option. “This is simply something that was overlooked during development,” he admitted. “We’re very sorry about that.”
But there’s good news! A two-player mode is being considered for a future update after launch.
Solo Adjustments and Hidden Self-Revive
Even though playing solo is harder without teammates to revive you, FromSoftware has made some smart changes to help balance things out. Enemy behavior adjusts based on how many players are in your game, so solo players won’t get overwhelmed by too many enemies at once.
Ishizaki also hinted at a secret feature that could help solo players: a self-revive mechanic hidden somewhere on the map. He didn’t share any more details, but it sounds like something fun to discover while exploring!
