If you just picked up Enshrouded and are wondering where to even begin, you are not alone. What Kind of Game Is Enshrouded?
Enshrouded is a voxel-based survival RPG with base-building, exploration, and light Soulslike combat. It is being developed by Keen Games, the studio behind Portal Knights, and it entered Early Access on January 24, 2024.
Since then, it has already hit over 4 million players. SteamCharts still shows strong daily activity, and the devs have been releasing regular updates – including a big one recently called Thralls of Twilight:
The game is available on Steam for $30 during Early Access. The full release is currently planned for Spring 2026, and the price will likely go up closer to 1.0.
What Changed in the Latest Update?
The recent Thralls of Twilight patch added quite a bit to the game. The Shroud is now spookier and more dangerous, with new enemies, better visuals, and rare resources hidden deep inside. You can also slot Gems into weapons now to adjust your build, explore nighttime-only temples, and mess around with armor dyes and new haircuts thanks to a new NPC. It is one of the biggest updates yet, and a good reason to jump in if you have not played in a while!
Beginner Tips from the Community
Here is what experienced players say you should do early on:
- Get Double Jump (and Updraft)
Movement is everything in Enshrouded. Unlock Double Jump as soon as possible, and grab Updraft shortly after. It makes traversal and climbing so much easier. - Farm Comfort Early
Your base has a Comfort stat, and it is more important than it seems. It extends your “rested” buff, which helps with stamina and regen. You can increase it by placing beds, lights, decorations, even toilets. - Renovate, Don’t Start From Scratch
Towns like Woodgard make great starting bases. Just clean them up, build some workbenches, and you are good to go. This saves a ton of time and materials. - Save Everything (Seriously)
Sticks, fiber, random loot – do not toss anything! You will need it all eventually. Use Magic Chests near your base altar to quickly dump items and sort them later. - Always Carry a Pickaxe
Aside from mining, your pickaxe helps with navigation, digging shortcuts, and even breaking through locked areas if you are creative enough. - Explore!
Most community advice comes down to one thing: do not rush. Try different skills, experiment with the building system, and take your time exploring. The map is big, and there is no wrong way to play, especially if you are just starting out or are new to the game.
