Things are really starting to heat up for Fallout fans. With remakes of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas reportedly in development, a lot of players are now wondering if a surprise shadow drop could be tied to a mysterious countdown on the Fallout TV show’s Amazon Prime website.
Fallout: New Vegas & Fallout 3 Remake?
Fans have known for a while that a Fallout 3 remake has been in the works at Bethesda—especially since the original is notoriously difficult to run on modern PCs. A remake honestly feels long overdue. But now, all the signs are starting to line up, and it looks like Fallout fans could be in for more than just one big surprise. The likelihood of remakes for both Fallout 3 and New Vegas is growing.

Not only is this year Xbox’s 25th anniversary, which almost guarantees major announcements, but Fallout co-creator Tim Cain also rejoined the studio recently. That alone has sparked speculation about both Fallout 3 and a potential New Vegas remake—possibly handled by Obsidian Entertainment. According to Jez Corden at Windows Central, Microsoft currently has multiple Fallout projects in motion, which likely includes both remakes.
If Obsidian really does get another crack at New Vegas, that’s huge news for longtime fans. After all, they built the original back in 2010. But how all of this rolls out is still a mystery, and right now there are a few major theories floating around.
The Clock is Ticking
The biggest one centers on that countdown clock on the Fallout TV show’s Amazon Prime page. At the time of writing, it’s ticking down to February 4, leading many fans to believe a new Fallout game, or at least a major announcement, could drop that day.
Another theory is that Bethesda pulls a page from its own playbook and shadow drops something entirely, similar to what they did with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. And then there’s the third option: a traditional reveal, whether that’s a trailer for a new title or even a bundled release of both remakes.
One thing is certain, though—Fallout hype is back in full force. Season 2 of the TV show has fans diving back into the games, and nearly every title in the series is seeing a noticeable spike in player counts. Between weekly episodes and nonstop rumors, the excitement is only growing.
And it doesn’t stop there. This year is stacked with anniversaries across Microsoft’s biggest studios:
- Bethesda’s 40th anniversary
- Xbox’s 25th anniversary
- Blizzard’s 35th anniversary
With all of that lining up at once, it really feels like something big is brewing behind the scenes. Whatever Bethesda and Microsoft are cooking, Fallout fans might not have to wait much longer to find out.
