Shortly after Silksong’s announcement at the Gamescom 2025, players are returning to Hollow Knight to experience the game once again as it hits an all-time peak player count of 33,000 players on Steam, judging from the stats on SteamDB.

Previously, Hollow Knight had a peak player count record of around 20,000 players back in May 2022. However, the recent release date announcement has made many old and new fans boot up Hollow Knight once again in preparation for Silksong.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to release on September 4, 2025. The release of the Metroidvania title had been highly anticipated ever since its initial announcement in 2019. However, there were no meaningful updates for many years, until the recent release date announcement at Gamescom 2025.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Is One Of The Most Anticipated Titles Of 2025

Developed and published by Team Cherry, Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally coming in September after seven long years of development, and this has also caused many other indie developers to delay their games.

Hollow Knight: Silksong features Hornet as the main character, who previously appeared in the prequel as an antagonist. Hornet’s role as the main character was initially planned as a DLC for Hollow Knight, but was later announced as a separate game.

Team Cherry first announced Hollow Knight: Silksong in 2019, and ever since then, it has been an elusive title. It was re-revealed with a trailer at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase in June 2022, but no further information was given regarding the game.

Now that we know the game is coming for sure in September, it’s time to boot Hollow Knight again to refresh your memory. If you haven’t played Hollow Knight yet, now would be the perfect time to give it a try, as the sequel is just around the corner.
