Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Teases Wutai, Highwind, and Space

Aerith in Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth

Square Enix has finally started sharing small details about the final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. In a recent Bloomberg interview, director Naoki Hamaguchi mentioned a few locations and gameplay elements that may appear in the third game.

Naturally, the studio is still keeping most things secret, but the interview already teases a few big moments from the original Final Fantasy VII returning in the remake trilogy’s finale.

Wutai and Icicle Inn

One confirmed location is Wutai. In the original Final Fantasy VII, the area was optional and mostly linked to Yuffie’s storyline. The remake trilogy has already expanded the conflict between Shinra and Wutai, so the nation might play a much larger role in the final chapter.

Hamaguchi also hinted that the game may begin around Icicle Inn, which would fit perfectly with where the party heads after the ending of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. If that is the case, the story could quickly move toward the northern continent and the events surrounding the Whirlwind Maze.

Airships, Submarines, and Even Space

The interview also teased gameplay elements that fans will recognize from the original game:

  • Rocket Town will return, the hometown of Cid Highwind
  • Players will once again fly the Highwind airship
  • A submarine section is planned
  • Chocobos will return with updated mechanics
  • Hamaguchi even hinted at a possible trip to space

In the original Final Fantasy VII, the Highwind allowed players to explore the world map freely late in the story. If a similar system returns in Part 3, exploration could expand significantly compared to Rebirth, which was already quite vast.

More Details Expected Soon

Of course, for now, Square Enix is still keeping most information about the final game secret. However, Hamaguchi said the team hopes to share more details in the near future.

This is exciting, especially now that the remake trilogy is moving toward its final chapter. It sounds like Part 3 could bring back many of the original game’s biggest moments and expand them even further. Either way, it is a good time to be a Final Fantasy 7 fan.
