Free Ride Mode Will Bring Open World Play to Mafia: The Old Country

Mafia: The Old Country Free Ride

If you have been waiting to explore Sicily at your own pace, good news: Hangar 13 just confirmed that Mafia: The Old Country will be getting Free Ride mode in a free update. Unfortunately, we do not have an exact date yet, but it is coming in the next few months.

What to Expect From Free Ride

If you are new to the series, Free Ride is a sandbox-style mode that lets you roam the map without story restrictions. You can drive around, try side activities, and enjoy the world however you like. This mode has been part of earlier Mafia games as well, and fans have been asking for it to return.

The full feature list is not confirmed yet, but datamined files hint at horse racing and betting being part of the update. That info comes from SynthPotato on X/Twitter, who spotted the files earlier this week:

More to Explore in the Meantime

In a Steam post, the developers thanked players for the support so far and promised more details about Free Ride soon. Until then, you can still use Explore mode to check out the Valle Dorata region, hunt down collectibles, and replay the story – now fully dubbed in Sicilian.

Outfits, cars, charms, and other rewards you have unlocked all carry over, so there will definitely be enough to do even before the update lands.

We will post a full breakdown as soon as Free Ride details are officially shared. Until then, keep an eye out for more Mafia updates on our main gaming news hub.
