Yes, you read that right. The studio best known for making pocket monsters battle for sport just walked onto the Summer Game Fest 2025 stage, looked the Pokémon in the eye, and said, “Not today.”
Instead, Game Freak dropped Beast of Reincarnation, an action RPG that looks incredible dramatic, so stylish, and so not-Pokémon. We’re still checking the studio logo to make sure this wasn’t a fever dream brought on by Jigglypuff.
What Is Beast of Reincarnation?

Game Freak’s new title looks like what would happen if Dark Souls, Tales of Arise, and Final Fantasy got caught in a magical summoning circle together. It looks beautiful, the story seems intriguing, and the fighting looks incredible. Beast of Reincarnation features real-time combat, so no turn-base this time. You also have rather complex skill trees, and a beautiful world that’s absolutely nothing like Pallet Town.

According to the reveal, the game is set to launch in 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. And no, there’s no sign of Pikachu. He’s probably back home, wondering why Game Freak won’t text him back, or why they refuse to put quality into his games.
