It seems some early Ghost of Yotei reviews are slipping out ahead of release, and the compliments are already over the top. A Swiss site, Watson.ch, published a review that straight-up calls the game “possibly the best I’ve ever played.”

A True Tsushima Successor
The reviewer spent around 48 hours in the game and described it as “Tsushima 2.0” – more refined, more balanced, and simply better across the board. The open world is absolutely breathtaking, the combat system feels familiar but new, and side quests are far less repetitive than before.
Meet Atsu and Her Wolf
Atsu, the new protagonist, is apparently funnier, warmer, and more likeable than Jin. Her bond with a wolf companion grows as the story unfolds, giving both humor and heart to the journey. The review highlights her emotional depth and says she carries the story in a way that feels more personal.
What Stood Out in the Review
- Visuals: Some of the best open-world graphics ever seen.
- Combat: Classic katana action plus new weapons like rifles, pistols, and the kusarigama.
- Quests: Side content that finally feels varied and rewarding.
- NPCs: More personality, less filler dialogue.
There were small criticisms, including one weak plot twist and a few clunky interactions, but the reviewer said none of it hurt the overall experience.
Already a GOTY Contender?
On Reddit, players are already debating if Ghost of Yotei could end up as Game of the Year. Most are hyped by the glowing review, and a few joke that gamers will get angry no matter what score the game gets. Xbox players, meanwhile, are already salty about missing out on another PlayStation exclusive.
