In Ghost of Yotei, not every reward comes from fighting. Some are hidden in the mountains, waiting for those brave enough to climb up there. Mount Yotei is the perfect one for this! It hides a shrine that will test your skill, patience, and determination.
Why Should You Climb Mount Yotei?
Mount Yotei is not just another mountain, it is more like a rite of passage. At the top you can find a sacred shrine where you will earn two unique rewards:
- Mother’s Charm: will boost your arrow damage.
- Father’s Charm: restores your health on Perfect Parries.
These charms can be quite useless, and you need to reach the shrine if you want the platinum trophy. Reaching the summit will also feel like a really important moment in your journey, a bit like an ode to Atsu’s heritage.
Requirements
Before you head towards the top of the mountain, make sure you are ready! You will need a few things to get up there:
- Grappling Hook – you will need it in order to climb to the top of the mountain.
- Upgraded stamina & healing items – make sure you have enough, as the climb is long and can be quite punishing.
- Traversal skills – Between Jumps, swinging over ledges, and crawling inside tight passages, you will need a few skills, so get yourself ready!
In order to start, head north of the White Dye Merchant, near the Yotei River. Look for shrine ropes and banners, they mark the beginning of the path. You can also use the Guiding Wind set to Shrines if you are a bit lost.

Step by Step Climb
- Step 1 – Enter the Path
- Follow the ropes and banners that are marking the trail. You will have some simple jumps and ledge to climb at first.
- Step 2 – Grappling & Broken Bridges
- Soon, you will run into bigger gaps and some collapsed bridges, just swing across with your grappling hook to keep pushing upward.
- Step 3 – Watch for Hazards
- Loose rocks, narrow ledges, and environmental traps can maybe cause some issues. You better get good with the grappling hook here.
- Step 4 – Mixed Traversal
- As you get higher, you will have to manage your timings between grappling hook, jumping between ledges, and crawling through tight passages.
- Step 5 – The Summit
- At the very top, you will find the sacred altar. Bow down to receive Mother’s Charm, Father’s Charm, and the Inheritance trophy.

And do not worry, this shrine is not missable. You can always go to Mount Yotei if you skip it early on. It is not a zone that becomes blocked or anything, so you can take your time to get it.
Is the Shrine Optional?
Technically, yes, you can beat Ghost of Yotei without climbing Mount Yotei. But if you want max strength, platinum progress, or simply to experience one of the most memorable climbs in the game, then it is absolutely worth it.
Climbing Mount Yotei is not just about loot, it is about the journey. The shrine at the top of the mountain feels like a personal victory, and the view from the peak makes it worthwhile.
On top of that, if you are confident with Perfect Parries, the Father’s Charm is game-changing. If not, Mother’s Charm’s ranged boost is perfect for taking out enemies safely.
