During the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase, we received another look at the Gothic 1 remake. While this isn’t our first glimpse into this nearly 25-year-old iconic classic, this is the most substantial look we’ve gotten so far.
Gothic 1 Remake Trailer
During the livestream, we received a fresh perspective on the kingdom of Myrtana, as seen through the eyes of Xardas. This in-depth presentation not only explored several areas of the early and mid-game but also highlighted various reworked animations and combat styles.
A Long Creative Process
Dedicated fans of Gothic have been anticipating its remake for over five years, and the game has undergone many changes during that time. At the beginning of 2025, we received access to a demo of Gothic 1 titled “Nyras Prologue.” This demo aims to provide a glimpse into the immersive world of Gothic.

This isn’t the first glimpse we’ve had at the remake. In December 2019, fans received a playable teaser designed to gather feedback and help shape the game according to their vision for a modern version of Myrtana. The teaser received mixed reviews. When comparing the previous teaser to the recent demos, it’s evident that several aspects, such as combat and AI, have improved. Unfortunately, other areas—such as lighting, bloom effects, and various other elements—continue to face criticism.
One of the most criticized aspects of the game is the dialogue. As highlighted in Mandalore Gaming‘s video on the playable teaser, the main character tends to overstate every minor detail, resulting in very annoying dialogue. Plus, some events have been altered—either slightly or significantly—since the original release.
Hope For The Colony
Despite the content testing, feedback, and criticism about the remake of Gothic 1, the game shows promise. Over the years, the developers have provided several updates on the game’s development through their second channel.
The consistent previews of the creative process reveal a world that is not only visually stunning but also sounds amazing. Even though some elements may currently be lacking, the world feels incredibly alive, perhaps even more so than before. The developers’ passion gives hope that Gothic 1’s remake will ultimately be a significant success.
If you have never experienced the Gothic series and want to dive into this iconic RPG for the first time, you can purchase the entire trilogy on Steam during their sale, which lasts until August 8. For console players, the complete Gothic collection is scheduled for release next year on PlayStation and Xbox, featuring updated controls and full gamepad support.
