The Gothic 1 Remake finally has an official release date. THQ Nordic confirmed in a new trailer that players will return to the Colony on June 5, 2026.
The video focuses less on gameplay and more on showing us the world. It reintroduces the Valley of Mines and the prison society built inside the magical barrier. Power, hierarchy, and survival are the main focus again, with the three familiar factions still clashing over control. The Old Camp protects its order, the New Camp pushes for freedom, and the Sect searches for salvation under the Sleeper.
A Modern Take on a Gritty Classic
Just like in the original, the remake is built around a harsh open world where you start as nobody. You are not the chosen hero; guards will beat you, creatures will kill you, and progress comes from slowly earning trust and reputation. The developers previously confirmed they are keeping the systemic design of the 2001 game, but modernizing controls, combat, animations, and quest presentation.
The project is using Unreal Engine 5. The goal is not to redesign Gothic into a modern power fantasy RPG, but to recreate the same immersive sandbox feeling that made the original special. Because of that approach, the game is often compared to Kingdom Come: Deliverance for its focus on immersion and “starting from zero” progression
Gothic 1 Demo Details and Platforms
The game is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on June 5, 2026.
If you cannot wait that long, the Nyras Prologue demo is out now on PC and consoles. It features a unique story separate from the main game, designed to show off the new systems and the verticality of the world, to give players a small taste of the updated gameplay.
