Fans Compare New Crime RPG From Just Cause Creator to GTA 6

A new, mysterious open-world crime RPG is currently catching attention online after a small teaser was released on social media, and some players are already calling it a potential rival to GTA 6 and Mafia!

From the Mind Behind Just Cause

The game is being developed by Liquid Swords, a studio founded in 2020 by Christofer Sundberg, the co-founder of Avalanche Studios and director of the Just Cause series.

Their first project does not yet have an official title or release window, but a short teaser trailer posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) has a lot of people talking. You can watch the teaser here:

Unfortunately, there is not much to see yet, outside of a rain-soaked, grey city shot that instantly gives GTA IV and modern Mafia vibes. It looks gritty, dense, and grounded, possibly set in a fictional take on New York.

The studio’s tagline on the tease post also sets a very specific tone:

“Hope moved out. Violence pays the rent. Get comfortable.”

If that is any indication, Liquid Swords is going for a darker, more grounded take on the crime open-world. So maybe something closer to Mafia II than the chaotic sandbox of Just Cause.

Fans Already Talking

The teaser got a ton of comments from both excited but also cautious players:

  • “Looks like a city you want to explore everywhere.”
  • “We got GTA 4 before GTA 6.”
  • “Please be dark and gory, a depressing city to lose yourself in.”
  • “Just make Just Cause 5!”

A few players even called it “artistically grey but realistic”, and said the atmosphere felt like “Robocop meets GTA IV.” And to be fair, the comparisons are not that far off.

Even without gameplay or a title, it is clear that Liquid Swords’ upcoming project already has a lot of people excited to see more.

A Dark New Contender

There is still almost nothing known about the story or mechanics, but if the visuals and tagline are any hint, this might not just be another sandbox. It could be a story-driven crime RPG, something very few studios have truly nailed.

Whether it ends up as a true rival or just a new crime RPG to enjoy alongside GTA 6, people definitely want to see more.
