Highguard Shutdown Concerns Grow After Website Goes Dark

Highguard simply cannot catch a break. Ever since the Game Awards, Wildlight’s Highguard is certainly the talk of the internet. With a rocky launch that saw mostly negative reviews on Steam, and now with little under a month of being online, Highguard’s website is currently unavailable. Many fans think this is anything between a data breach and the start of the game’s eventual full shutdown.

The Final Days of Highguard?

Currently, at the time of writing, if you try to access Highguard’s official website, you will be met with “This site is currently unavailable.” Many are also tying this to a recently deleted post from Josh Sobel, who has now deleted his X account entirely, just days after publishing an article blaming gamers for Highguard’s failure.

Pair this with the recent announcement that Wildlight is also beginning to lay off a large part of its staff after Highguard’s launch. Yet despite this, they released a roadmap that promises new content stretching into the rest of the year. All of this highlights potentially new maps, heroes, weapons, tools, and more coming throughout 2026.

But ultimately, it seems like the backlash is getting to Highguard, not only that, but their dwindling player count. Despite this, Highguard devs initially said, “We don’t need player counts to be super huge in order to be successful,” to posters declaring it dead on arrival.

Will the Devs Push Through?

Highguard Release

Despite dwindling staff, player count, and positive view in the public eye, will Wildlight pull Highguard out of this hole? Some fans still believe that the general premise and gameplay are good and simply need more fine-tuning and polishing. One attempt to appeal to fans was the inclusion of an experimental 5v5 mode, which was one of the game’s biggest criticisms. But with so much online drama, is there still hope for Highguard?

Additional sources also say that Tencent is secretly funding Highguard, which may be why it can still stay afloat.
