Hot off a series of collaborations with Pizza Tower, Celeste, and even Hatsune Miku, Rift of the Necrodancer has just released new songs in collaboration with virtual idol group Hololive. Initially teased on June 23rd with some not-so-subtle silhouettes, the DLC bundle includes 5 songs by talents from Hololive’s Japan and English branches:

  • “REFLECT” by Gawr Gura
  • “BIBIDIBA” by Hoshimachi Suisei
  • “Play Dice!” by Hakos Baelz
  • “Ahoy!! 我ら宝鐘海賊団☆” by Houshou Marine
  • “Carbonated Love” by IRyS

“REFLECT” is available as a free download, likely because of Gawr Gura’s graduation and conclusion of her idol activities with Hololive earlier this year. The rest are available on discount for $1.79 each, or as a bundle with Rift of the Necrodancer for $17.35. The ultimate pack of the game is also available for $39.26, and includes all 19 DLC songs. Discounts end July 10th, so prospective musical monster slayers should act fast.

Developed by Vancouver based studio Brace Yourself Games, Rift of the Necrodancer released in February this year. Following up Crypt of the Necrodancer. The sequel eschews the roguelike, dungeon crawl nature of the first game in favor of rhythm game mechanics, mixed in with minigames reminiscent of Rhythm Heaven. The game received favorable reviews from critics, and is sitting on a “Very Positive” rating from Steam users.

Hololive is the virtual idol group managed by Japanese corporation Cover. Since 2020, interest in virtual idols and Youtubers (vtubers), has exploded in popularity, becoming a nearly three billion dollar industry with a global audience. The Hololive idols included in Rift’s DLC collectively have nearly fourteen million subscribers on YouTube. Beyond Necrodancer, Hololive has collaborated with other video games like Valkyrie Connect, Azure Lane, and even World of Warships. Cover also supports fans who want to develop games based on their favorite personalities through its holo Indie brand. You can say this for certain: the fans certainly don’t lack for enthusiasm.
