Yes, you read that right, you need fruit to upgrade your chicken. Meet Scrappy, your faithful scavenging buddy. Once you have trained him (and grabbed the dog collar that is already a pain to find), you can upgrade Scrappy. However, you will need lemons and apricots to do it.
Finding them is not exactly a walk in the park either. The trees are not super obvious, and these areas are not exactly safe. Since everyone wants the fruit, you might have to fight for them. But do not worry, we have got you covered!
Best Spots for Lemons & Apricots
These are the spots players have had the most luck finding Scrappy’s favorite fruits, lemons and apricots. So keep an eye out when you wander around these locations:
- Blue Gate – Olive Grove
- This place is basically a fruit jackpot. Lemons, apricots, and even olives spawn here.
- Check both the trees and the surrounding ground. You can even kick the trees to make extra fruit drop.
- Bonus: Some houses nearby have baskets with multiple fruits, so keep an eye out.

- Buried City – Gardens Between Library & Town Hall
- Several fruit trees are in this area, with Lemons and apricots that can spawn.
- Same tip: kick the trees and check the ground. Competition can be dangerous here, so move fast and do not stay in the same spot for too long.

For those who are in the earlier maps, some players on Reddit also shared a few locations on the first two maps! You can find those here:
Some players also recommend checking the Hydroponic Domes in the Dam Battleground, when you get a lush bloom map, there are usually 3 to 5 lemons or apricots baskets inside.
Quick Tips
Here are a few additional tips that can be useful:
- Dog Collar: You need one to train Scrappy. Look for apartment buildings on the edges of maps. They are fairly common, but can be risky to grab.
- Other Fruits: Do not forget about olives, prickly pears, and cat beds if you are aiming for higher-level upgrades. Cat beds spawn mostly in residential apartments.
- Safe Storage: Use your safe pocket for fruits. This way, if you get killed, you will not lose them. And there is also less risk of you accidentally selling or recycling them!
- Watch the Clock: Some maps get looted fast, so the earlier you spawn, the better.
Scrappy may be a little scrappy, but with the right fruit farming spots, your chicken will be upgraded and ready to scavenge like a pro!
