Update 1.2 for Where Winds Meet closes up the Kaifeng chapter, but the final Jianghu Legacy quest does not just appear on your map. Instead, the game hides it behind a few specific requirements, and finishing it means surviving one of the toughest boss sequences so far.
Here is how to access the quest, and what you will want to know before stepping into the final fight.
How to Unlock “Gambit Beneath the Shimmer”
The final Lost Chapter quest is called Gambit Beneath the Shimmer, and it has several prerequisites before it becomes available.
To access the quest, you will need to:
- Complete Jianghu Legacy 02 – Shadows in Bloom
- Finish the Kaifeng main story, including Furnace of Righteousness
- Reach 6,000 Kaifeng exploration progress
- Speak to the Wayfarer in Kaifeng City
Once you have completed all that, you might have to manually unlock it through your own menu:
- Press ESC
- Open the Letter menu → Letter Box
- Select the letter mentioning “The unfinished game at Reverie Hall awaits your return.“
- Read it and then exit the menu
Once you do this, a new quest marker will appear at Reverie Hall in Kaifeng City. You can then head there and begin the quest.
What to Expect From the Final Quest
Gambit Beneath the Shimmer is around 40 minutes long and contains a mix of story, puzzles, and exploration.
You can expect a sort of “dreamlike” environment and puzzle sections, such as a chess-style puzzle involving diagonal movement and symbolic pieces, dialogue about freedom, debt, and survival, and multiple combat trials that force you to perfectly know how to parry and use your stamina.
Final Boss – Four Fights, No Checkpoints
The real challenge comes at the end. After progressing through the quest, you will be pulled into another realm where you will see a moonlit lake and a distant pagoda. Make sure to activate the Hero’s Tomb before moving forward, and be careful because if you die during the boss sequence, you will have to restart from this point.

This fight is most likely your new nightmare. It is not like any other boss we have seen so far. Instead of a single enemy, the final encounter forces you to defeat four bosses in a row. You already know those bosses, and you most likely defeated them before, so you better remember their mechanics:
- Murong Yuan
- Zheng E
- The Dao Lord
- The River Master
If you fall at any point, the entire sequence resets. No checkpoints, no save, nothing. You have to defeat them all one after another. Each boss keeps most of their original mechanics, so this fight is as much a memory test as it is a skill check.
Boss Tips – How to Survive Each Phase
Here are a few indications that can help you get through the four bosses.
Murong Yuan
- Watch for her yellow attacks during phase one
- Use Meridian Touch to cancel them and knock her down
- This creates a short window where you can deal heavy damage and burn her Qi bar
Zheng E
- His red-glowing fan attack is difficult to parry
- Meridian Touch can cancel it entirely, giving you some time to breathe
- Focus on controlled damage rather than rushing the phase
Dao Lord
- During phase two, he splits into three enemies
- When they go up and leap into the air, use a bow to hit them as they emerge
- This helps manage pressure and take away their health safely
River Master
- Parry his charged energy ball to throw it back and stun him
- In phase two, focus on parrying his melee combos, especially red-glowing finishers
- Successful parries drain his Qi bar quickly and open him up for Executes
Finishing the Quest
After defeating all four bosses, a cutscene sends you back to Reverie Hall, officially ending the quest. You will receive The Book of the Amber of East, and the story ends there, on a slightly ambiguous note.
It is a long, demanding finale, but also one of the most cinematic and memorable moments Where Winds Meet has delivered so far. If you are planning to do this quest, patience and parry timing will be the most important, far more than raw damage.
You can also train against the solo versions of the four bosses, as this can help memorize patterns and parry timings. A video of the fight was presented during the New Game+ showcase, and this also gives you an overview of the complete fight if needed.
