Is a Next-Gen Update Finally Coming to Red Dead Redemption 2?

Red Dead Redemption 2 might finally be getting the next-gen treatment players have been asking for since the launch of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S!

Rockstar has not made any official announcements yet, but some players have noticed a recent Steam page update, including changes to the game’s description and assets, and it is the first major change in years. That alone was enough to start the speculations that something is brewing behind the scenes.

Why the Sudden Change Matters

The rewritten description may sound minor, but for many players, it is unusual for Rockstar to change Red Dead Redemption 2’s store page this late in its life cycle, unless there is a reason.

Some people believe it could be part of preparations for a next-gen release, and others just think it might be a sign of more upcoming promotional events.

Players Split Between Hype and Caution

Of course, not everyone is convinced. Some players are staying cautious, especially since similar hopes have surfaced before without results.

But with GTA VI approaching and more development resources possibly freeing up, optimism is slowly returning to the community! If anything, now could be the perfect timing to announce a remaster for next-gen!

What Players Want Most

If a next-gen version does get announced soon, players are mainly hoping for:

  • 60 FPS support on consoles
  • Enhanced textures and lighting
  • Minor quality-of-life improvements
  • A smoother, more stable experience overall

Even a simple framerate boost would be enough to bring many players back to the frontier!

There is one concern, though, and that is pricing. Players are hoping Rockstar will not lock the update behind a new purchase or a full-priced edition, as seen with GTA V’s re-releases. Many players are hoping for a simple free port if you already had the old version on your console, or just a lower price for it.

All Eyes on the Next Take-Two Call

With Take-Two Interactive’s next earnings call coming soon, people will be listening closely for any hints about a Red Dead Redemption 2 update.

This Steam change might just be completely random, or something bigger, but one thing is sure, the timing could not be more interesting.
