Is a Prototype Remaster on the Way?

Sixteen years after the first game released, the Prototype franchise may be emerging from dormancy. Earlier this year, rumors started circulating about a new game in the works, originating from Reddit user Bigbyy. They claimed to have received a YouGov survey that revealed features from an upcoming Protoype game. Though it turns out, it might not be a sequel in the works at all.

New Evidence Revealed in Datamining

A surprise update hit the original Prototype on Steam in September, and a modder named Nixson dived into the files. The datamined info was shared on the Reddit, revealing many new names added to the game’s credits. New maps were also discovered where devs may be testing things like ambient sounds and parkour. It’s believed that Iron Galaxy Studios will be handling the remaster, having a proven track record with the Spyro Remake trilogy.

Is a New Entry Imminent?

Discussion continues to abound on the Prototype subreddit, with users hoping a third game is on the horizon. A remaster may be the way to gauge interest in Prototype 3, or even to generate hype before an announcement. While it’s been more than a decade since Prototype 2, many gamers who came up during the seventh console generation have quite a bit of nostalgia for the series. Both Prototype and Infamous are regarded as standouts in open-world games from that era, adding unique “superhero” twists and mechanics. Though Prototype is less Marvel and more like The Thing. Either way, the fans are hopeful a return to shape-shifting mayhem isn’t too far off.
