With the current long silence from CD Projekt Red, new leaked details are giving players their first little hints at Cyberpunk 2, internally known as Project Orion.
A few posts on social media, such as this one, are sharing a recap of everything that is known so far around the game:
We have gathered everything available so far to give you a detailed look at what to expect from Cyberpunk 2!
Cyberpunk 2 – Project Orion
According to early reports, Cyberpunk 2 will feature an entirely new map, and this means it is expanding beyond Night City to more than one major city, with one of them resembling Chicago.
The developers reportedly wanted to explore a city that “went in the wrong direction,” suggesting a darker, even more corrupted take on the already dark setting of the first game.
The game will also move to Unreal Engine 5, leaving behind the studio’s in-house REDengine. This one was used for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3. This change could allow for more realistic crowds, better world interactivity, and improved performance. It is something players have been hoping for since the first game’s rocky launch.
However, with the recent issues a lot of games had with Unreal Engine 5, some people are also worried it could cause problems here as well.
Cyberpunk, but Multiplayer?
Cyberpunk 2 is officially confirmed to be a single-player RPG, but some job listings at CD Projekt Red have hinted that the studio is also exploring multiplayer options! However, keep in mind that nothing has been officially announced. This is all only speculations.
Perhaps the most promising bit is that the sequel is said to be moving faster through development than its predecessor. With the project now in pre-production, CDPR seems committed to applying everything they learned from Cyberpunk 2077, both its mistakes and its success with Phantom Liberty.
What Is Next for Cyberpunk 2?
So far, there is no release window or even teaser footage, but given how early the project is, do not expect a major reveal until late 2025 or 2026.
Still, all the current leaks show CD Projekt Red’s clear ambition is to make Cyberpunk 2 bigger, bolder, and more believable than ever!
