During an interview with Destructoid, Katsuhiro Harada, the Tekken director, said that Tekken X Street Fighter was 30 percent developed in the past, and he’d like to show people what they had been working with.

I mean, it depends on what people are wanting as well. That said, I would like to show people what we already have. That would be cool if we could do that. We were 30 percent into development, so fingers crossed,” Harada told Destructoid when he was asked about Tekken X Street Fighter.

What Happened To Tekken X Street Fighter

Tekken X Street Fighter was an ambitious game that never came to be. It was being developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game was expected to feature a crossover between the worlds of two fighting game giants, Tekken and Street Fighter.

Street Fighter X Tekken was developed by Capcom, which introduced the Tekken characters in Street Fighter’s world. However, fans weren’t satisfied with the game. Most fans wanted the opposite, for Street Fighter characters to come to Tekken.

And that did happen, eventually, but not in the form of Tekken X Street Fighter. Akuma, a popular antagonist from Street Fighter’s cast, did make it into Tekken 7’s story mode and as a playable character. But the original idea of Tekken X Street Fighter was left in the dust, and the development was never completed.

Bringing 2D fighting game characters and adapting them into Tekken’s 3D world seems to have been a challenge, but it would’ve been a spectacular game if it had ever come to fruition.

Regardless, judging from what Harada said during the interview, the development progress was still in the early stages. He also mentioned that he’d love to show the people what they had developed so far of the game, but when will that opportunity arrive? It’s hard to say.
