A new Kingdom Hearts rumor started to appear on social media this week, with claims that Square Enix could be working on a full remake of the original first game.
According to the leak, the project is supposedly called Kingdom Hearts Relux and could release before Kingdom Hearts 4, possibly sometime around 2027. There is no official confirmation, and more importantly, no images or material being shared publicly right now, so this is very much early rumor territory.
What the Remake Would Include
The general idea is not a full remake, but more of a modern version of KH1 with updated visuals and some extra content.
Some of the details being shared include expanded areas in places like Traverse Town and Halloween Town, and new playable sections where you control Riku. One of the bigger claims is that Deep Jungle would be replaced by a Jungle Book world. This would not be that surprising since we already know that they do not have the rights for the Tarzan Licence anymore. It is one of the reasons Tarzan never appeared in other Kingdom Hearts games after the first one.
There are also rumors that parts of the canceled Missing Link project could be added into it, which would be a pretty typical Square move considering how much lore was locked behind that game.
Some Big Question Marks
Right now, the rumor mostly comes from a single source, and without screenshots or a second insider backing it up, it is hard to treat any of the specifics as reliable.
Things like the exact release window, platform plans, or even the title itself are usually the first details that end up changing, or turning out wrong, this early. There is also the simple question of timing. Kingdom Hearts 4 is already in development, so if a remake does exist, it means working on two games at the same time.
On top of that, other insiders have shared that this rumor conflicts with another one suggesting only a collection, and not a full remake. This means that it could also just be a new collection regrouping all the games, and not an actual remake of the first game.
The idea of revisiting KH1 before KH4 is not unrealistic, but there is not enough proof yet to say it is actually happening. If we start seeing trademarks, more insiders mentioning it, or any kind of leaked assets, that is when this kind of rumor usually starts getting real.
Until then, it is just one more Kingdom Hearts rumor to keep an eye on, so take the information with a grain of salt for now! We will definitely update you if anything else is shared in the upcoming weeks!
