Konami Confirms Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2

Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 is still in development, reassuring fans at Tokyo Game Show 2025 that the project is “moving forward properly.” Series producer Noriaki Okamura said the team is working on the collection next to ongoing work on Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, promising that it will be worth the wait.

Fans Want MGS4 More Than Anything

The biggest request for Volume 2 is, without a doubt, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It is the only mainline entry still locked to the PS3, and a lot of players see this as the perfect chance to finally bring it to modern consoles. Even though it has famously long cutscenes, the argument is that it delivers one of the best endings in gaming history.

The main concern is if Konami can overcome licensing hurdles and the tricky PS3 architecture, but excitement is high for a long-awaited port.

Peace Walker, Portable Ops, and Handheld Gems

Another hot pick is Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, originally a PSP release that fans still love for its co-op and unique weapons. Many even see it as the “true” MGS5 Kojima wanted to make before marketing forced it into handheld territory.

Portable Ops is also requested, with some hoping Konami adds Portable Ops Plus for its PvP mode. And then there are the cult favorites: Acid 1 & 2 and Ghost Babel. These are less likely, but fans argue they deserve preservation, even as bonus content.

The “Maybe” List: Rising and Twin Snakes

A few players are calling for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and the GameCube remake, The Twin Snakes. Rising still has a strong fanbase thanks to its wild story and memes, but most feel it would fit better in a possible Volume 3. The Twin Snakes is complicated due to Nintendo licensing and its polarizing tone, so expectations are rather low.

Volume 3 Speculation

Based on hints in Volume 1’s files and community discussion, many think Volume 3 could focus on:

  • Ground Zeroes & The Phantom Pain
  • Rising, Survive, and The Twin Snakes
  • Leftover handheld and mobile titles

Since MGSV and Ground Zeroes are already widely available, fans agree they can wait for later volumes unless Konami adds meaningful upgrades.

Concerns Over Konami’s Approach

Although the hype is real, expectations for the actual port quality are pretty low. Volume 1 delivered mostly direct ports with minor fixes, and fans suspect Konami could even try to sell MGS4 separately at a premium price. Nevertheless, the community agrees that finally getting MGS4 off the PS3 would be a massive win for game preservation.

For now, Konami is keeping details under wraps. However, it is pretty obvious that a Master Collection Vol. 2 is coming. Hopefully, it delivers the long-awaited return of MGS4, together with handheld classics like Peace Walker and Portable Ops. Until then, patience is the name of the game.
