Mass Effect Fans Have a Good Reason To Watch The Game Awards

A small update from Archetype Entertainment (via comicbook.com) has basically confirmed it: Exodus is showing up at The Game Awards with a new trailer, which is probably going to give us the best look at the game so far. If you have been wanting “another big sci-fi RPG” to fill the Mass Effect-shaped hole in your soul, this one is worth keeping an eye on, as it is one of the most anticipated sci-fi titles of the decade.

The studio already said that the new trailer will be much more substantial than previous teasers. And since Geoff’s show is usually the moment where studios drop big reveals, expectations are naturally very high.

A Sci-Fi RPG Built Around Time Itself

Exodus is still pretty mysterious overall, but the core idea sounds incredibly promising. The game uses time dilation as an actual story mechanic, meaning when your crew travels at near-light speed, only months pass for you, but years may pass for everyone you left behind.

So your decisions matter not just because of outcomes, but because of the time you spend making them. Leave on a mission, come back, and entire factions or characters may have changed without you.

Not many games attempt something like this.

Humanity vs. the Celestials

The story also seems quite simple… at first. You play as humanity’s last hope, facing an enemy called the Celestials. The comparison to Mass Effect‘s Reapers is almost unavoidable, and the game does not hide that same “galactic-scale threat” vibe.

It is set 40,000 years in the future, with new worlds, new civilizations, and the promise of choices that can reshape the galaxy. It draws from the sci-fi tabletop RPG of the same name, which already has a strong reputation for good storytelling.

What To Expect at The Game Awards

Archetype has not said exactly what will be shown, but fans are hoping for:

  • A proper gameplay segment
  • An updated look at time-dilation consequences
  • Maybe even a release date instead of the vague 2026 window

If Geoff Keighley wants a big “one more thing” moment, Exodus is the kind of game that fits that slot perfectly.
