It looks like Max Payne 3 might be getting a second life. According to the known Rockstar insider Tez2, a remaster of the gritty third-person shooter is reportedly in development, potentially timed to follow a GTA 4 port set for release later this year.
A Potential Trilogy Revival
Tez2 believes Rockstar is still following a post-pandemic roadmap that puts GTA 4 first, then Max Payne 3. Both are expected to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, bringing two of Rockstar’s most requested classics back to life with modern performance and visual upgrades.
Here is what we know so far:
- GTA 4’s port has allegedly been in development for about a year
- Max Payne 3 would come next as either a port or full remaster
- Both could be bundled with Remedy’s Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes
You can see a summary tweet from GermanStrands here:
GTA 4’s Port May Tie Into GTA 6
One reason for the sudden GTA 4 activity might be narrative. Liberty City is the hometown of Lucia Caminos, the main character in GTA 6, which is now officially set to launch on May 26, 2026. Dropping GTA 4 beforehand could serve as a soft lead-in for new players and returning fans.
This also lines up with Rockstar’s decision to shut down the Liberty City Preservation Project, a fan-made mod that was bringing GTA 4’s map into GTA 5. It seems likely Rockstar wanted to avoid overlap with their own upcoming plans.

Max Payne Fans Are Ready
Max Payne 3 launched in 2012 and still has a loyal following. Players on Reddit and fan forums are hopeful that the remaster includes:
- The full single-player story
- Multiplayer support (or at least preserved content)
- Enhanced visuals and modern controls
Bundling the remaster with Remedy’s upcoming remakes would give fans a way to experience the full trilogy on one platform, start to finish.
No Official Announcement (Yet)
As exciting as this all sounds, Rockstar has not confirmed any of it yet, so take it with a grain of salt. But if Tez2’s info is accurate, Rockstar could have a packed schedule leading up to GTA 6.
