May or Maybe Not? GTA VI Release Date Faces New Doubts

May or maybe not? GTA VI’s official May 2026 release date is suddenly looking less certain. Rockstar insists it is locked in, but new chatter suggests the game could slip into October instead! And players are already debating which timeline feels more realistic.

May or Maybe Not?

Rockstar officially stamped May 26, 2026, as the date for its long-awaited blockbuster, but according to well-known journalist Tom Henderson, that timeline could be optimistic at best. Speaking on the Insider Gaming podcast, Henderson shared doubts that Rockstar would really release GTA 6 in May, instead suggesting October 2026 feels more realistic.

To be honest, I don’t think that it is gonna release in May. For some reason, I just cannot see GTA 6 releasing in May. I think Rockstar are just such perfectionists… to me personally, I think we’re looking at October,” Henderson said.

His reasoning is straightforward. Rockstar’s reputation for perfectness and the fact they do not want to risk even minor bugs could push the studio to release for the holiday season.

Former Rockstar Dev Says Otherwise

However, not everyone agrees. In an interview with outlet jvmag.ch from last July 2025, former Rockstar technical director Obbe Vermeij, explained that they do not pick release dates at random. He pointed to GTA IV as an example, saying the second date they announced back then was chosen very carefully to give the team plenty of room to polish the game.

Anything is still possible, but according to his own experience with the company, May should be good to go.

The mixed signals are causing a lot of debate in the community. Some fans see Henderson’s doubts as realistic, pointing to Rockstar’s perfectionism and GTA 5’s rocky launch. Others believe Vermeij’s insider knowledge carries more weight, especially since Take-Two and Rockstar already doubled down on May multiple times.

Rockstar has not said anything new for now, but experts point out the last delay was probably the smarter move long term, even if it hurt investors a bit. It is clear Rockstar does not just want GTA VI to be another big release. They are aiming for something massive.

Until Rockstar speaks again, players are left with cautious optimism! They are hopeful that May 2026 will stick, but bracing themselves in case October ends up being the real finish line.
