CD Projekt Red’s teams are growing fast again. The studio now has nearly 800 developers on board, a big jump after the 9% layoffs two years ago. With hiring ramping up, both The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 are clearly moving forward.
A few weeks ago, CDPR shared their H1 2025 earnings conference, which covered a lot of details. If you want the full breakdown, you can watch it here:
Project Team Updates
- The Witcher 4: Headcount rose from 422 to 444 between April and July, as the game moves into its most advanced development stage yet.
- Cyberpunk 2: The team grew from 96 to 116 in the same period, with pre-production officially underway in Q2.
- In total, CDPR’s dev headcount went up 10% in just three months.
Historical Context
For perspective, The Witcher 3 had around 240 devs, and Cyberpunk 2077 sat at roughly 400 six months before launch. Both upcoming projects are already well beyond those numbers, showing how much CDPR is investing in scale this time around.
Long-Term Expectations
- The Witcher 4 is still expected no earlier than 2027.
- Cyberpunk 2 is likely years away, with projections landing closer to 2030.
Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski stressed that the focus is on building efficient, agile teams through smart recruitment. More devs does not always mean a better game, but given CDPR’s track record and lessons learned from Cyberpunk’s rocky launch, fans are hopeful the bigger teams will help deliver polished results this time.
For now, it looks like CD Projekt Red is putting the pieces in place to make their two biggest projects yet.
