Fable fans are finally getting some good news. After months of barely any updates or hints at what’s to come, Playground Games is ready to pull back the curtain on the next Fable with a deep dive at the Xbox Developer Direct on January 22nd.
The Year of Fable?
It’s been over five years since the world first saw the announcement trailer for Fable, and more than a year since its official trailer debuted at the Xbox Showcase. Now, things are finally starting to look up. Fans are about to return to Albion once again when the game takes center stage at Xbox’s Developer Direct later this month.
While we still don’t know many concrete details about the upcoming Fable, we do know that Playground Games is keeping the core “DNA” of the original trilogy intact. Player choice will once again play a major role in shaping the story, and combat is sticking to a familiar third-person perspective. From previews so far, the game appears to feature a mix of combat styles, including melee, ranged weapons, and magic.

Playground Games isn’t coming to the Xbox Developer Direct with just Fable. The studio will also roll out a fresh look at the highly anticipated Forza Horizon 6, while Xbox puts the spotlight on Beast of Reincarnation—a new single-player, Souls-like action RPG from Game Freak that’s already turning heads.
With all of this on the horizon, 2026 is shaping up to be a big year for Xbox. Rumors continue to swirl that Halo 2 and Halo 3 could be getting remakes after Halo: Campaign Evolved finishes its campaign revival. There’s also growing speculation that Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are next in line for remakes, along with the possibility of a long-awaited Wolfenstein 3 announcement.
While much of this is still unconfirmed, the excitement is hard to ignore. Even if the Developer Direct delivers only what’s been announced, January 22nd at 10 a.m. PT is already a date Xbox fans won’t want to miss.
