New Valheim Update Adds New Creatures & Combat Changes

Looking for a reason to do another Valheim playthrough? Amongst the chaos of Gamescom 2025, Valheim dropped a fresh new trailer for a new patch hitting the PTR. While this latest patch, the Call To Arms update, doesn’t add a ton of new items, it does shake up the world in several new ways.

New Creatures & Items in Call To Arms

In the new Valheim update, we are getting two new creatures, the Bear and the Vile, and we are getting a handful of new items, too. It seems you can encounter the new gigantic grizzly bear as early as the Black Forest, and its stronger variant in later biomes. Defeating either allows you to craft their respective armors or fist weapons.

We are also getting some new battleaxes, the Black Metal & the Skull Splittur. We are also getting some wooden weapons, which are meant to practice combat on your fellow Vikings without killing them. Speaking of practice, there’s also the brand new training dummy, which definitely packs a punch, and the new archery target helps you hone your bow skills.

In addition to all of this, we are getting a new line of weapons, Bottled Blobs. These Blobs come in several forms, including Poison, Oozer, Lava, Frost, and of course, Tar. You can craft these bombs by visiting the Bog Witch and gathering specific trophies to throw your own (yet not friendly) blob to attack anything nearby.

However, these Blobs are just as weak as their real-world counterparts, but they also keep their elemental characteristics. The Lava Blob detonates, the Tar Blob slows, and the Ozzer splits into smaller blobs.

New Valheim Trinkets & Mechanics

There have been a few gameplay mechanic changes. For example, perfect blocks no longer cost stamina! We also now have perfect dodge rolls, so if you dodge an attack that would have caused you damage, you get a % of stamina back instead!

They have also reduced the movement speed penalty on Battleaxes, Sledgehammers, and Tower Shields. Both of these changes will massively impact players’ stamina recovery and buff multiple playstyles.

This update also introduces Trinkets. Equip these items to gain adrenaline during battle, and thus unlock temporary perks. You gain adrenaline by hitting enemies, triggering a Forsaken Power, using certain magic attacks, as well as performing Perfect Blocks and Perfect Dodge Rolls. When the bar is full, you get an adrenaline surge, which gives you a temporary perk designated by your equipped Trinket. Adrenaline will fade when you are not in active combat, and you will only gain adrenaline as long as you have a Trinket equipped.

Rebalanced Forsaken Powers

Lastly, unexpectedly, Forsaken Powers are getting some massive reworks and reblancing. Here are the changes:

  • Eikthyr: 60% reduced stamina usage for running, jumping, and swimming
  • The Elder: 60% Chopping and Mining damage increase, 30% health regeneration increase
  • Bonemass: 25% resistance VS pierce, slash, and blunt damage, 100% reduced block stamina usage, 5 stamina on return per block
  • Moder: Always tailwind, 300 increased carry weight, 10% increased movement speed, 50% frost resistance
  • Yagluth: 50% Lightning resistance, 25+ Farm skill, 10% increased damage
  • The Queen: 100% increased Eitr regeneration, 100% reduced sneak cost, 50% poison resistance
  • Fader: 100% Adrenaline increase, 50% reduced stagger meter modifier, 50% fire resistance

Do you think this is enough to tie players over until the Deep North and Valheim’s 1.0 release date? Till then, keep an eye on our latest news for future updates!
