Nexus Anima’s Beta Shows Hoyoverse Has a Sense of Humor

Hoyoverse’s new project, Honkai: Nexus Anima, might be heavy on lore and creature collecting, but the closed beta has also revealed something else: it is surprisingly funny. Between snappy dialogue, silly creature designs, and a few slapstick surprises, players are finding moments that lighten the mood and grind, and make the world feel more alive.

Snarky NPCs & Charisma Checks

The attribute system gives players the option to lean into charisma-heavy choices. That sometimes means smooth-talking your way through a scene, and other times just throwing out ridiculous one-liners.

NPCs do not always play nice either, and the back-and-forth can turn hilariously rude in ways you would not expect from a game in general. HoYoverse definitely did not lose its sense of humor!

Goofy Creatures & Quirky Names

From a bird made of French fries to a bunny-capybara hybrid, some creature designs are meant to make you laugh as much as they are to help in battle.

Combined with the option to nickname your companions, it is easy to end up with a squad that looks like it walked out of a parody Pokémon mod.

Slapstick Beta Moments

Sometimes the humor is not in the writing; it is just in what happens on screen. A perfect example: a viral clip from the beta shows Blade literally getting a cake to the face mid-scene, and the community cannot get enough of it. Watch the clip here:

Blade really left the Stellaron Hunters for this, and we love it.

It is the kind of unpolished-yet-perfect slapstick that makes beta tests unexpectedly entertaining.

Cliffhangers & Mischief

Players have also run into some very intriguing cliffhangers. One tester described barely surviving a fight against a tough enemy, only for an even stronger donut-themed monster to appear immediately after, a classic “you’ve got to be kidding me” moment that made the whole chat laugh.

For a beta that is still rough around the edges, Nexus Anima is already showing it knows how to have fun with itself. It has some sharp bits of dialogue, goofy monsters, or even an unexpected food fight; these moments give players something to smile about, and that is worth just as much as polished mechanics.
