Nintendo Raises Prices on Original Switch Consoles

Nintendo is raising prices on the Switch 1 and related consoles.

Price Changes Hit the Switch 1 Series

Citing “market conditions,” Nintendo is upping the prices on the original family of Switch consoles and accessories. The effected consoles include the base model Switch, OLED, and Lite versions. Select Switch 2 accessories and products will also be increased, though the recently released successor console will remain at $449.99. However, Nintendo stated that future price adjustments “may be necessary.”

While the update on Nintendo’s site doesn’t list the new prices, a screenshot from VGT Gaming News shows the alleged new prices up on Target. The page shows the base switch at $339.99, the OLED at $399.99, and the Lite version at $229.99. At time of writing not all Target stores appear to have these new prices online, so buyers in other areas will need to wait and see.

Record Sales on the Switch 2

The update comes seven weeks after the Switch 2 hit retailers around the world. Since launch, the successor to the Switch has sold 5.82 million units globally, with 3.5 million happening in the first four days. The consumer appetite for the new platform has made it the fastest selling console in history, with Nintendo’s goal to sell 15 million by March 2026. With the price updates on the eight-year-old Switch 1 series, it seems Nintendo is still keeping an eye on revenue from the older consoles. Will the new prices be a turn-off for those unwilling to pay for a Switch 2? We’ll have to wait and see.
