Nintendo Switch 2 Breaks Worldwide Sales Records

If you thought the original Switch was a big success, the second one is definitely on another level! The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in early June 2025, and broke all the sales records in various regions, including the United States and Japan, with Europe not far behind, making it the fastest-selling gaming system of all time!

A Historic First Month

According to the Circana sales report from June to July, the Switch 2 sold 1.6 million units during the first month in the US. This is more than any other gaming console has ever sold in the same time frame in the United States. If you want to compare, the PS4 sold 1.1 million in its launch month back in 2013, and that means the Switch 2 beat that by half a million pretty easily!

Thanks to the Switch 2 sales records, June 2025 was the biggest month for gaming hardware spending in the US, reaching a total of $978 million. This is definitely blowing past the old record of $608 million from June 2008!

In Japan: 3X Faster Than Switch 1

Over in Japan, the Switch 2 also broke records. It sold over 1.53 million in its first month, and that is more than triple what the original Switch did at launch. To put that into perspective:

  • Switch 1: 556,000 in its first month
  • Switch 2: 1.53 million in the same time

That is not just a Nintendo record, but it is the biggest first-month launch in Japan’s history since data tracking began in 1996 (according to Famitsu). It even beat out legendary launches like the PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS, and Game Boy Advance.

And keep in mind that the actual real number is likely even higher, since the Famitsu records do not include all the Nintendo sales.

Worldwide: 3.5 Million Sold in Just 4 Day

Globally, the Switch 2 sold over 3.5 million pieces in just the first 4 days. This is not only Nintendo’s fastest-selling system ever, but on top, it may also be the biggest console launch in gaming history worldwide! In Europe, the Switch 2 also sol over 1.18 million units.

Games Helped Push It Even Further

The Switch 2 also released with a few very good games, and a lot of players ended up buying one in its first 2 months because of the games:

  • Mario Kart World (which 82% of buyers picked up!)
  • Zelda: Breath of the Wild with the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
  • Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, also because of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour
  • Donkey Kong Bananza who just release, but also pushed a lot of people to get the console

With such a good launch, it is safe to say that the Switch 2 should be safe for a long-term success as well! And for more gaming information, you can check out our latest news!
