Blizzard is working on a new take on its hero shooter that plays very differently from the main Overwatch game everyone knows.
The game, called Overwatch Rush, is a top-down multiplayer shooter designed for mobile devices like phones and tablets.
What Is Overwatch Rush?
Unlike the FPS-action of the main Overwatch game, OW Rush puts you in a top‑down twin‑stick shooting view that feels easier to pick up and play on touch screens. Controls include a virtual analog stick for movement and a second stick for firing and abilities. As shared by Games Informer, there is also some light auto‑aim to help make things feel better on mobile.
The game is being developed by Blizzard’s team in Barcelona, with the goal of bringing familiar heroes and mechanics into this new format. Characters like Tracer, Reinhardt, Soldier: 76, Lucio, Pharah, Mercy, Kiriko, and Reaper are planned for the initial lineup. More heroes are expected over time.
Even if the camera angle and movement feel different, the main idea does not seem to have changed much. It is still built around fast multiplayer matches and familiar hero abilities, just repackaged for quick mobile sessions.

What Else We Know
According to Blizzard’s official FAQ, Overwatch Rush will be free-to-play. Like most mobile games, it will include optional in-app purchases.
Right now, the game is only available through a Limited Geo Test. In practice, that means access is restricted to select regions while Blizzard collects feedback and fine-tunes things.
As for controller support, it is not in the current build. The developers say they are looking into it, but there is no confirmation yet. Blizzard also clarified that Overwatch Rush is being developed by a separate, dedicated team. This means it will not impact development of the main Overwatch game.
There is no release date yet.

All content shown is work in progress and subject to change.
Welcome, heroes!
We’ve got something new to share. While it’s still early days, we want to share updates on our progress throughout the development process.
Today, we’re introducing Overwatch Rush, a new top-down Hero shooter designed specifically for mobile set in the Overwatch universe.
Overwatch Rush is being developed by a dedicated team at Blizzard, separate from Team 4, all of whom have deep mobile experience. Team 4 remains fully focused on Overwatch, which will continue to bring exciting and fresh new experiences for PC and console players in its recently launched Season 1 and beyond!
Overwatch Rush is an entirely new game – not a port – built specifically for mobile players. As we prepare for testing Overwatch Rush in select countries and regions, check out our official Discord server for updates on the game.
While there remains a lot of work to do, we’re eager to see how players enjoy what we’ve built so far, and to hear from them on what we should focus on in the coming phases of development.
Our mission is to continue to expand the Overwatch universe by bringing fresh new adventures to players across all platforms. We’ll continue to keep you updated on how things are progressing.
