With the new Overwatch season coming tonight and several new heroes arriving, one character has already raised a lot of discussion: Anran. Instead of ignoring the reaction, Blizzard has now confirmed the team is looking at possible changes.
Blizzard Acknowledges Concerns About Her Appearance
In a short video, game director Aaron Keller said the team has been reviewing community feedback about Anran’s in-game model. He explained they are discussing what it would take to make her feel more like the “fierce older sister” players expected based on earlier material.
The conversation started because some players felt her face did not match the tone set by trailers and other media, where she appeared older and more distinct.

Others pointed out similarities with existing heroes, with criticism often framed around a perceived “same-face” issue among some female characters.
Keep in mind that Blizzard has not promised a date yet. Keller’s message was more about reviewing what is possible and how long changes to a hero model could realistically take.
Even the Voice Actress Weighed In
The discussion did not stay limited to players. Anran’s voice actress also publicly supported the idea that the character’s look could be improved, adding more visibility to the topic.
That extra message likely helped keep the conversation going long enough for Blizzard to address it directly.
Community Reaction Is… Very Split
Some players welcomed the response and were happy the team acknowledged the feedback. However, others think Blizzard should not be changing a character after release. Across forums and social media, reactions range from people asking for a more distinct, mature design to others saying the current look is fine and that development time should be spent on gameplay issues instead.
This is not unusual for Overwatch. Character design debates tend to pull in very different expectations. Some players want a stronger visual identity between heroes, and others prefer consistency with the existing art style.
What Happens Next
For now, nothing is confirmed beyond internal discussions. If changes do happen, they will likely depend on how feasible it is to adjust the model without breaking animations, skins, or performance.
So even if Anran’s design was nice the way it was, just keep in mind that it might not stay that way forever! However, it does not mean that the new design will not be cute either! For now, Blizzard has not shared any official new look.
We will keep you updated if a new design is officially shared, so stay tuned!
