Call of Duty film to be produced by Paramount.

With video game shows and films finding more critical and commercial success at the box office, Paramount is giving one of gaming’s biggest franchises its own adaptation for the silver screen. A deal has been inked between the film studio and Activision to produce a Call of Duty movie. Details on production are scant for now, but the agreement comes a month after Paramount merged with Skydance in an 8-billion-dollar deal. David Ellison, Skydance’s owner and current CEO of Paramount is also a lifelong Call of Duty fan.

“From the first Allied campaigns in the original ‘Call of Duty,’ through ‘Modern Warfare’ and ‘Black Ops,’ I’ve spent countless hours playing this franchise that I absolutely love,” said Ellison. “Being entrusted by Activision and players worldwide to bring this extraordinary storytelling universe to the big screen is both an honor and a responsibility that we don’t take lightly.”

A Call of Duty movie has plenty of sources to draw from. From the WWII-era games to Modern Warfare or Black Ops, any of CoD’s sub-series could end up as a feature film. While the deal focuses on one movie for now, supposedly there is room for expansion into TV. And if the film makes enough money, it’s likely a sequel will follow. But the first movie will likely be a couple years off, so we’ll have to wait and see.
